How to Tow a Car in an Emergency

The front tires are lifted off the ground by the tow truck using two pivoting arms that enter under the tires. The back tires are still on the ground. Towing your car in this manner is acceptable.

NOTICE

Your car will sustain significant damage if you attempt to lift or tow it using the bumpers. The weight of the car cannot be supported by the bumpers. Never use a rope or chain to pull your car behind you. Ropes or chains could shift from side to side or even break, making it extremely dangerous. Towing improperly, such as behind a motorhome or other car, can harm the transmission. If your vehicle must be towed with the front wheels on the ground:

1. Look for any fluid leaks near the transmission housing on the ground beneath the car. If you discover a leak, contact a reputable towing company and have a dealer check out your car.

2. The cover’s edge should be covered with cloth. To remove the cover, carefully pry with a small flat-tip screwdriver or a metal fingernail file. The front bumper anchor is where the detachable towing hook is mounted.

3. The wheel nut wrench and towing hook should be removed from the luggage compartment.

4. The towing hook should be inserted into the hole and securely tightened using the wheel nut wrench.

5. Connect the towing tool to the towing hook.

6. Start the engine.

If it is difficult to turn on the engine, put the ignition switch in ACCESSORY or in ON position

7. Shift into Neutral on models with a manual transmission.

8. Press the brake pedal for models with a continuously variable transmission.

9. Shift to Drive mode and hold for five seconds, then to Neutral

10. Across all models, let go of the parking brake.

If your vehicle must be towed with the front wheels on the ground:

Continuously Variable Transmission CVT Models only:

The transmission will be damaged if you are unable to shift the gears or start the engine. It is required to move your car with the front wheels elevated.

An ENGINE START/STOP button is used in place of an ignition switch on models with the keyless access system.

NOTE:

While your car is being towed, you might encounter the following if you can’t start the engine.

The power assist of the brake system is disabled, which could make stopping more challenging. Upon turning off the power steering system, the steering wheel becomes heavy.

The steering wheel is locked by setting the ignition switch to LOCK (0*1).

The best towing distance is 80 km, and the best speed is under 55 km/h, when the front wheels are on the ground. The brakes get hot when going down a steep slope.

The brakes could become dysfunctional as a result. Call a reputable towing service if you need to tow your car up an incline.

Use only the towing equipment that is appropriately designed and attached. The steering wheel is locked in manual transmission models by turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0*1).

It is best to tow the vehicle no farther than 80 km, and to maintain a speed of no more than 55 km/h, with the front wheels on the ground. The brakes get hot when descending a steep slope.

The brakes might be unable to function properly as a result. Call a reliable towing service if your car needs to be towed up an incline.

Use only the towing equipment that is properly designed and attached.
